Prescriber ID Information
New!!! Effective May 23, 2008, SC Medicaid will allow pharmacies to begin using the Prescriber NPI when transmitting a claim. If you do not know the NPI for the prescriber, please click here to locate the number from the NPPES site: https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov/NPPES/Welcome.do.
The information contained below was collected from the Georgia Composite State Board of Medical Examiners www.medicalboard.state.ga.us, the North Carolina Medical Board (www.ncmedboard.org), and the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (www.LLR.state.sc.us). Some formatting changes have been made to the information to accommodate claims submission requirements. The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) attempts to keep this information accurate and up-to-date. However, neither DHHS nor First Health Services Corporation warrants the authenticity or reliability of such information. Under no circumstances will DHHS or First Health Services Corporation be liable for any actions taken, or omissions made, from reliance on any information contained on, or linked to, this web page from any source nor shall DHHS or First Health Services Corporation be liable for any other consequences from any such reliance.
As a result of the Nurse Practice Act signed by Governor Mark Sanford in May 2004, the South Carolina Board of Nursing will now issue Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) state licenses to nurse practitioners with prescriptive authority. All nurses with prescriptive authority will be assigned a new license number by the Board. As a result of this licensing change, SC Medicaid will use the prefix “APRN” followed by the state license number as the designated prescriber ID number required for claims processing. Providers are reminded that the prescriber ID field is a ten-byte field. Therefore, zeros must be inserted between the prefix and the ending license number in order to correctly format this field.
